FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE November 17, 2011 Contact: Peter Clark Phone: 512-463-0532 (o), 512-417-9262 (c) Email: Peter.Clark@house.state.tx.us Federal Court Proposes New Redistricing Maps Austin - Today a federal court released proposed interim redistricting maps for Texas House and Senate seats. Representative Mike Villarreal, Vice Chair of the House Redistricting Committee, released the following statement in response to the proposed maps: "This is a big step forward in providing fair representation to Texas voters. After the Republican leadership drew districts that ignored the growth of the Hispanic population, the court's proposal does a better job of reflecting the state's demographic changes. We will continue to analyze the proposal and monitor the next steps, but it looks like we are making progress."
